February Full Moon

The full moon in February is called  Full Snow Moon

This term has been coined by Native Americans, since the heaviest snow usually falls during this month.

Native tribes of the north and east most often called Februarys full Moon the Full Snow Moon.

Some tribes also referred to this Moon as the Full Hunger Moon, since harsh weather conditions in their areas made hunting very difficult.

Happy Monday

With warmer days in Bangalore, bright blossoms are being seen all over the place.

Seeing these flowers, one even forgets the pain of Mondays Smile with tongue out

Hopefully everyones boss also sees these flowers before leaving home Open-mouthed smile

Sadness or poignancy

Often have I wondered how animals in a zoo, safari or a national park would feel. Would they be sad or does their situation make it poignant for us?

Let us take the case of the big Cats.  From my post-graduate studies in Ecology, I knew that Tigers needed about 25 Sq Km for males wherein 3-4 females could be found in this area. Now that may be contrasted to the small caged enclosures in Zoos. How can a free-ranging animal like the tiger be confined to such cramped surroundings? What effect would it have on its mental and physical state?

As studies have shown, the life expectancy of some zoo animals is lesser than those in the wild. However, zoos have animals living in controlled conditions, with optimal nutrients, no predators, proper disease care. Yet, the mental and physical states of animals in captivity still evokes a feeling of sadness.

Watching a butterfly flying free and seeing one bred and released into a butterfly park evokes different emotions. Why is it so?

Is it because we are seeing ourselves in the a kind of a conundrum with our lives? Do we ever experience the freedom of flying free. or are we so besotted with roti, kapada and makhan that we have forgotten how to live????

Butterfly fascination

Danaus genutia

What it is that fascinates us about butterflies? Humans who have always praised firmness and solidity are totally captivated by these winged beauties who are such fragile creatures and have such short lives.

Do these winged beauties give us a glimpse of our own mortality? Or are they just a passing fancy.

I guess the answer varies from individual to individual for me. I just love photographing them Smile

Depth of the forest....

When one delves into the depths of the forests, and searches in hidden paths and lonely forest glens, does one come across sparkling streams and burbling brooks of crystal clear water.

In response to The Daily Post's weekly photo challenge: "Depth."

Moon on 01.02.15

Emerging like a bright idea from the chaos of a cluttered mind, does the moon rise into the dark sky. Guiding people since eons, even after all our technological advancements, the moon still holds fascinates many. As one of the people who is fascinated by the moon, I try and capture it as often as I can and share with my friends Smile
